Calgary to Dawson Creek

We departed Calgary at 8:30 AM on Monday morning headed for Woody's RV World to pick up some supplies and check on buying a spare windshield wiper motor.   We got our supplies and they promised to let us know the price of a windshield wiper motor.  We were back on the road at 9:20 AM headed for Whitecourt, Alberta.  Our decision to abandon the visit to Edmonton proved to be a good one as Alberta Route 22 took us through some beautiful farm country.  We arrived in Whitecourt at 3:00 PM and immediately began doing our chores.  Mary did laundry and I washed both the Jeep and the Winnebago learning that the self-service vehicle wash in Whitecourt is not anywhere near cheap.  The tariff for washing both vehicles was over $50 Canadian.

Our departure from Whitecourt was at 9:00 AM with an objective of reaching Dawson Creek after a supply stop in Grande Prarie.  We arrived at the Mile Zero RV Park in Dawson Creek at 3:00 PM and after taking care of some chores left to tour the town.  The museum at the Visitor Center proved to be very interesting as was the video they showed on the history of the Alaska Highway.

We did the obligatory photos of the start of the Alaska Highway and the Mile Zero Marker.

Today was also significant in that Mary was able to discard her "Space Boot" and return to normal shoes (provided she can find ones that fit).

I am sure it feels great to not have to wear the "Space Boot" but it will take some time to get everything back to normal.

Tomorrow morning we begin our Alaska Highway adventure.  Our wireless Internet connection here is great but who knows how it will be as we move north.  I will update the blog every chance I get, but it may be a few days between updates for awhile.
