On to Valdez

After a fine breakfast of sourdough pancakes and reindeer sausage we packed up the motorhome and headed for Valdez.  I did get a nice photograph of a Blue Columbine which was growing near the motorhome.

As we drove west the mountains of the Alaska Range came into view.  More beautiful scenery and photo ops.

We also got a look at our first moose.  A big cow feeding in the water near the road.  She was almost close enough for a good photograph, but the light was from the wrong direction so I had to settle for what I could get.  Later we saw another cow moose in the water but she was to far away to photograph.

As we approached Glennallen we drove along the Copper River famous for great King Salmon fishing.

The major attraction on the highway between Glennallen and Valdez is the Worthington Glacier. It like all glaciers in Alaska continue to recede at an alarming rate.

Our new home in Valdez is right on the water at the entrance to the small boat harbor.  As you can see below we have quite a good view from our front window.  I am amazed at the amount of snow in the mountains surrounding Valdez and the fact that it almost reaches sea level.  The weather is cool and cloudy.

We have booked a cruise for tomorrow afternoon and will do some exploring in the morning.
