We bid farewell to Fort Nelson and headed north toward Muncho Lake. The views just keep getting more and more beautiful. Our first real mountain vista came about 40 miles out of Fort Nelson at Stone Mountain.

It started to rain soon after leaving the Stone Mountain area so the views were a bit obscured until we reached Muncho Lake. We were early enough to get a fine campsite on the water. No electricity, water or sewer, but it is the finest camping spot we have had this trip. Plenty of quiet, plenty of great views and enough wildlife to keep my interest.

The guys building the Alaska Highway had to work hard to build the road around Muncho Lake. It required a lot of blasting and moving of rock.
Alaska Highway at Muncho Lake
The primary form of wildlife in this area is the Stone Sheep. They come down to the highway to get salt so they are easy to view if they happen to be there when you are going by.
This morning after enjoying the area a little more we drove to Liard Hot Springs and enjoyed a leisurely soak in the hottest pool. The surface temperature was 115 degrees and the temp at the bottom was 100 degrees. By "stirring" the water we were able to create a comfort zone for ourselves.

After a shower and picnic lunch we continued our travels to Watson Lake. We saw a few bison and a black bear on our way but only got a photo of one Bison. The first order of business on arriving was to wash both the Jeep and the Winnebago. Yes, we know they will be dirty again in a day or so but it was nice to have clean vehicles for a little while. Mary is doing laundry as I write this blog.
