Denali Day Two

On Thursday at 6:30 AM we embarked on a 13 hour Kantishna tour of Denali National Park. Kantishna is 90 miles into the park from the entrance and we arrived there just after noon. We were rewarded with our first view of Mt McKinley at Polychrome Point and it was beautiful. They told us that only 40% of the people that visit Denali see the mountain and only 10% see it in its complete glory. Are we lucky or what?

On our arrival to the Kantishna Road House we enjoyed a delicious lunch and then a presentation on Dog Sledding and the Idiatrod dog sled race.

The second major objective of our day was viewing animals and we did a fine job. We saw a dozen Grizzly Bear, three Moose, a few Caribou and a number of Dall Sheep.

A continuing interest of ours is viewing wild flowers and we got our share today.

We finally returned to where our Jeep was parked at 8:00 PM ready for a good nights rest.
